A brief history of Adel CC
Founded in 1876, Adel Cricket Club is one of the oldest clubs in North Leeds — a community club shaped by 150 years of players, volunteers and families.
Founded in 1876, Adel Cricket Club is one of the oldest clubs in North Leeds. While little is known about the club's earliest organisation, cricket was the first recorded sport played in the area and the club has remained a key part of the local community ever since.
The club is now closely linked with the Adel War Memorial Association (AWMA), established in 1928 to manage the 30-acre memorial ground dedicated to local men who lost their lives in the First World War.
In 1946, the club purchased a pavilion from the now-defunct Creskeld Cricket Club for £425. It was carefully dismantled, moved to Adel and rebuilt near the present scorebox, opening two years later and serving the club for almost four decades.
Following an Under-18 match on 29 May 1986, the pavilion was destroyed by fire. The present pavilion was built the following year, funded by the AWMA, a local charity grant and extensive fundraising by club members.
After almost 150 years, Adel Cricket Club remains a thriving community club — playing the same game, on the same ground, with the same spirit.
